Went out to Buckeye Lake saturday night and ended up getting on some bigger channels. Was a little slower night but ended up with 15 or so. Caught a 9lber being the biggest and most of the 15 were around 5lbs. All were fat females full of eggs. We were anchored in a channel with rocks on one side and docks on the other. Caught them on both sides closer to the banks. Fished a cpl spots but this is where we had most of out luck. Caught most on bluegill heads. Wasnt getting much activity on anything else. Ended up being a good night with a lot bigger fish than usual.

Sucks to hear that. The rivers around me are flowing fast right now but not too high. I might try a couple calm eddies this weekend or hit a lake for channels. I'll post how I do if I get out. I'll probably try drifting and see if it's productive this time of year.

Caught a lot spawning males by rocks before. Anchored not drifting, but I just started drifting so not sure if it would be productive or not during the spawn.

Sounds like a good idea to me. You could run a tourney or competition of some sort after to attract more ppl.

I always bring a rope lure with me when wading or canoeing/kayaking for that same reason. You see them roaming around so much you can sight fish for them. Sounds like a nice trip!

Caught some a cpl weeks ago drifting at Buckeye Lake. A lot of times I'll still use peg floats when anchored because of the muddy bottom out there. I've seen some spawning signs as well but not sure if they are yet or not.
Does the spawn change if you drift or anchor? Just started drifting a lot this year.

Always no roll sinkers in rivers with carolina rig and normally egg sinkers when fishing lakes. Don't bank fish in lakes too often so try not to use very much weight since I don't have to cast real far.

I always like to use a float in the rivers when it's a calm enough eddie. I try to set it a cpl feet off the bottom. If not really calm just fish bottom. Good luck!

We get into a lot of gar in the Scioto where I fish that will sometimes just jerk the bait around a little and sometimes they'll grab it and scream your clicker. Then you miss the fish and reel in a tore up piece of bait. Could be channels too like ppl mentioned. Big live baits will make little jerks in the line too.
