Yea my buddies that went in on it with me are commercial carpenters and can build about anything. I'm sure it will look real nice once we re-do it this winter.

Me and a couple buddies got a pontoon a little while back and upgraded from the Mud Minnow. It's a 1985 Landau. Came with a 30hp Suzuki that blew up first time out and during the first MVCATS tourney. Got 40hp Johnson for it now but it was a short shaft. Hadn't done it yet in the pic but cut the transom down and then had to figure out a way to rig the steering cable or buy the kit online for $180, so we figured something out with what we had. The zip ties, wire, and tape in the pic were from a quick fix we had to make while on the first test run. We've fixed it since then. Had to figure out a way to mount the trandsucer and this is what we came up with. Have used it a couple times and it seems to be holding up fine and working fine. One of my buddies is getting a house soon that has a big garage and other out buildings that we plan on working on the boat in this winter. We are going to re-do the floor, console, seating, get the actual steering kit for the motor, have a welder put an actual transducer mount on, everything pretty much. It is fishable as is and will work fine for the rest of the season.

I'm pretty sure Driftmasters sell a mount for about anything. I'm a big do-it-youselfer personally, but some projects don't seem worth it at times lol. Check out all the boats on here, I'm sure you'll find something similiar.

Yea I was kinda figuring the same with you Ducky. That I just need to find the bigger fish, rather than just finding the fish numbers. When I get on a bunch of smaller ones I'll catch them fish after fish and occasionally get a decent one out of the bunch, which is perfect for the frying pan. But for the tourneys I need to find the big fish. The more I fish different lakes and over time I'll figure things out.
Are channels like flatheads and come into shallower water at night to feed, or does deeper water generally always hold the bigger fish?

Yea there is a spot right in front of the transom that has a gap in the bottom so it holds water and that is where the livewell pump is. I figured the motor would throw off the reading. I saw some straps that people put on the small personal float pontoons. Just a heavy duty strap that they wrapped around one of the logs and hooked the transducer to. I don't know if I would trust a strap at higher speeds though. I'll see what I can rig up and post pics. Might end up having a bracket welded on if I have to.

The pontoon boat I got doesn't have the welded on bracket on the toon for a transducer. Has any of you ever seen any homemade brackets for these? I tried looking online and didn't find much. On top of the toons there is a flat shelf with plywood on it for the gas tank and batteries. I thought of screwing a piece of metal to hang down off of this shelf and be flush with the bottom of the toon, and then mounting the transducer to it. There would be about an inch gap between the back of the toon and the bracket. You guys think this would work or have you seen it done any other ways? Thanks

Yea I've been using cut strips of shad when I drift and it seems to produce pretty good. The strips keep it from spinning. I'll have to try different sinker setups so avoid snags. Next time I go out I'll definitely bring an assortment of baits and try some whole cut baits and heads and hopefully I can get on some bigger fish. Yea I've been using that rig with the blades Jordan I like it a lot. I feel like I just need to experiment more while I'm out there instead of being satisfied with catching numbers of smaller ones.
We also had a motor blow up on us the last tourney I fished which didn't help lol.

Last time I drifted Massey I noticed that the lines that were farther back got more action. Last time I was out I didn't bring my drift bucket that I made and the wind was blowing us around pretty good. Ended up still getting quite a bit of action. I'll have to remember it next time to have the option of changing speeds. Most of my leaders are around 3' like you mentioned I'll switch up lengths next time out. Thanks for the advice guys!
I made a few of those pencil style weights out of 1/4oz barrels and shoe string and got more snags on them then just a barrel sinker. Might have been a coincidence I don't know. Just figured I'de throw that out there since we were talking about drifing lol.

Clicker is what I've always called the "bait runner" or where the spool is open and it clicks when line is pulled out. It's on baitcast reels. Kinda hard to explain I guess I've just always known it as a clicker lol. You'd have to be drifting pretty slow to keep your bait down with no weights I'de imagine. Maybe I'm missing fish when I'm drifting because I'm waiting for them to really take the bait and bow my rods.

Never waterfowl hunted before Ducky, but it looks like a blast! I'm sure I'll get into it one of these days.
I'm right there with you Chuck. I've pulled all nighters many times and not had a nibble after about 1am or so. Most times I end up laying my head down near my clickers and going to sleep for a few hours, only to wake up to one of my buddies pulling out my line lol.

I never really tried fishing with no weights Mexicanthreat. Do you tight-line it or run your clicker when anchored? Or do you always drift? I have noticed that while lake fishing, if I throw out a larger weight it seems that you get a lot more "bites" and not runs. I've been using smaller weights in lakes like a 1/2oz-3/4oz barrel, but never tried no weights. I'll definitely be giving it a try, I always like to try something new.
